Obulia & Alberto’s Story
Meet Obdulia and Alberto, our September family of the month! They are both eagerly awaiting the birth of their second child. Obdulia enrolled in our programs early in her pregnancy. She and Alberto have an older child together, but they sought the guided support and education of Healthier Moms and Babies to feel more prepared and confident with pregnancy and birth.
Obdulia was paired with her case manager, Maria. Obdulia was grateful to have a home visitor who could provide education in her native language; navigating community resources, pediatric recommendations, and prenatal education can be very overwhelming without someone to walk alongside you. Maria provided the tools and education both Obdulia and Alberto needed to feel confident throughout pregnancy.
Maria helped Obdulia and Alberto connect and navigate community resources; Obdulia explains that with her first pregnancy, she didn’t have anyone to help her through the paperwork and referral processes; Maria helped her feel less alone in her journey and more confident she could receive the help they needed. Alberto encourages other families to accept the amazing help that is available in our community. Alberto had never heard of Healthier Moms and Babies before their pregnancy; he and Obdulia look forward to their monthly sessions with Maria and are glad to be a part of this program!
Both Obdulia and Alberto were grateful for Healthier Moms and Babies. Without their case manager, they may not have known what to expect or what healthy choices they could have been making. Obdulia recalls, “the most surprising piece of information for me was how healthy eating is so important during pregnancy. I remember during my first pregnancy eating anything. I had no idea what we were eating could lead to health problems, like gestational diabetes.”
Obdulia and Alberto are excited to welcome their baby boy this November. Maria will continue to meet with them after baby is born, continuing their education. We are so proud of Obdulia and Alberto and can’t wait to celebrate the birth of their baby!
