Healthier Moms and Babies is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce infant mortality and improve outcomes in our community. Healthier Moms and Babies provides several comprehensive programs which are designed to educate, empower, and inspire participants to make positive changes to impact the outcome of the pregnancies, their lives and the lives of their families.
Job Purpose
A contracted position through Healthier Moms and Babies (HMB), the Community Doula will report to the Women’s Wellness Initiative Supervisor. The doula is trained to provide support to pregnant women during the third trimester, labor and delivery, and early postpartum period. The doula will help families prepare for childbirth, offer continuous support during labor, and assist with recovery and newborn care in the weeks that follow. The doula will serve low-income, high-risk pregnant women in Allen County, visiting them in their home to improve the outcome of pregnancies and reduce infant mortality.

Conduct prenatal and postpartum visits and be present during clients’ labor and delivery as mandated by Community Doula program policies
Support families through education, provide relevant resources, and through labor and delivery
Provide accurate documentation of client visits in a timely manner
Meet with supervisor to review cases and attend doula team meetings
Provide unbiased support, respecting the family's choices regarding their birth plan
Must work with clients from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, ensuring culturally sensitive care.
Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
Participate in in-service training and attend conferences as needed.
Assist with outreach events related to the doula program as needed

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Life Experience

HMB will pay for the courses to acquire certifications within a set timeframe. If already certified, proof of certification is required.
Doula Certification (HMB certifies through ICEA)
Certified Lactation Consultant
Community Health Worker Certification
CPR Training
Must complete necessary trainings to maintain all required certifications
A valid Driver’s License
A reliable vehicle for transportation to visit clients in their homes and at the hospital

Willingness to learn how to help pregnant women prepare for labor and delivery, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding basics, and newborn care
Demonstrates integrity in all situations and interactions
Ability to develop trusting, collaborative, professional relationships with clients, peers, and community members.
Demonstrates initiative, self-motivation, and pro-active behavior.
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and in a tactful, professional manner
Must have organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple and diverse clients concurrently.
